20 Years of Latin Tridentine Mass in General Santos City

This year marked two decades of Latin Tridentine Mass in General Santos City. It was in May 1993 when Fr. Paul Morgan visited the place and offered the first Latin Tridentine Mass. From a humble place at Magdalena Yumang's house at Dadiangas East, the mass center moved to its present location in 1997 with Fr. McMahon officiating the mass.

Sarto Learning Center: Traditional Catholic Education in Mindanao

Traditional Catholic learning is now in Mindanao with the launching of Sarto Learning Center. This primary school is named after Pope Pius X(Pope Pius X, born Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto, was the head of the Catholic Church from 4 August 1903 to his death in 1914. He was the first pope since Pius V to be canonized)
The school is envisioned to be an integral part of St James Chapel. Catholic values and traditions are taught in a formal religious education program and are a guide for all that they do throughout the school. We hope that parents and students will experience a sense of warmth and welcome, and that there will be a rich sharing of ideas, talents and enthusiasm as together we go about the work of helping our children to learn and grow.

St Blaise Celebration in General Santos

Fr. Timothy Pfieffer celebrated St. Blaise Feast Day today at St. James Chapel in General Santos City.

Many Catholics might remember Saint Blaise's feast day because of the Blessing of the Throats that took place on this day. Two candles are blessed, held slightly open, and pressed against the throat as the blessing is said. Saint Blaise's protection of those with throat troubles apparently comes from a legend that a boy was brought to him who had a fishbone stuck in his throat. The boy was about to die when Saint Blaise healed him.
